Type
Glutathione (GSH) is an endogenous tripeptide composed of glutamic acid, cysteine, and glycine, synthesized primarily in the liver and found in every cell of the body. It acts as the body's master antioxidant by directly scavenging reactive oxygen species, regenerating vitamins C and E, and conjugating toxins and heavy metals for hepatic excretion. Researchers, clinicians, and longevity-focused practitioners use exogenous glutathione via IV, IM, subcutaneous injection, or oral supplementation to combat oxidative stress, support liver detoxification, and slow cellular aging.

Overview of Glutathione
Glutathione exerts its effects through three primary pathways: direct ROS neutralization via the glutathione peroxidase-catalyzed reduction of hydrogen peroxide and lipid hydroperoxides to water; conjugation of electrophilic toxins and heavy metals via glutathione S-transferases to facilitate biliary and renal excretion; and maintenance of the intracellular redox state through the GSH/GSSG ratio, which regulates redox-sensitive transcription factors including Nrf2 and NF-κB.

PeptideGlutathione Protocols
Subcutaneous injection is the standard self-administered route for Glutathione, delivering consistent antioxidant support at lower doses (100–200 mg/day) without the degradation seen with oral ingestion. Intravenous administration is reserved for higher-dose clinical protocols targeting skin brightening, chronic detoxification, or intensive antioxidant loading, where 100% bioavailability and rapid systemic distribution are required.
| Goal | Dosage | Frequency | Route |
|---|---|---|---|
| Establish a foundational antioxidant baseline and replenish intracellular glutathione stores depleted by daily oxidative stress | 100 | 1 day range | SubQ |
| Gradually increase systemic glutathione levels after a starter phase to improve redox balance and cellular protection without overwhelming clearance pathways | 200 | 1 day range | SubQ |
| Inhibit tyrosinase-driven melanin synthesis and shift melanogenesis from eumelanin to phaeomelanin for visible skin lightening; IV is the clinically studied route — the primary placebo-controlled trial used 1200 mg IV twice weekly for 6 weeks | 1200 | 2 week range | IV |
| Reduce exercise-induced oxidative stress, accelerate muscle recovery, and preserve mitochondrial function after high-intensity training | 800 | 2 week range | SubQ |
| Support Phase II hepatic glutathione conjugation of heavy metals and persistent organic toxins in chronically ill patients; IV route is preferred due to the higher tissue concentrations required for meaningful toxin binding and elimination | 1000 | 3 week range | IV |
| Achieve peak tissue saturation of glutathione for acute antioxidant support in high oxidative burden states; 1200–1500 mg IV is the commonly cited high-dose clinical range used by integrative clinics | 1400 | 2 week range | IV |
Reconstitution Instructions
Materials needed:
Steps to reconstitute
- Draw 2.0 mL of bacteriostatic water into an insulin syringe
- Insert the needle through the rubber stopper of the Glutathione vial at an angle
- Inject the bacteriostatic water slowly down the inner wall of the vial — do not aim directly at the powder
- Remove the syringe and gently swirl or roll the vial until the powder is fully dissolved — do not shake
- The resulting concentration is 300 mg/mL (for a 600 mg vial with 2.0 mL water)
- Label the vial with the date of reconstitution and store refrigerated at 2–8°C, protected from light
- Use the reconstituted solution within 2–3 weeks for optimal potency
- To inject, clean the injection site with an alcohol swab and allow it to dry
- Pinch the skin at the chosen site (abdomen, thigh, or upper arm), insert the needle at a 45-degree angle, and inject slowly
- Rotate injection sites with each dose to prevent tissue irritation
Glutathione Cycle

Frequently asked questions
What is a peptide dosage calculator?
A peptide dosage calculator is a free tool that converts your vial size, bacteriostatic water volume, and target dose into an exact syringe draw volume. Instead of doing the reconstitution math by hand, you enter three inputs and instantly get the concentration of your solution and how many milliliters or syringeunits to draw. This calculator works for single peptide compounds and multi-peptide blends.
How do I calculate peptide dosage from a vial?
To calculate your peptide dose, divide the total peptide content of your vial in micrograms by the volume of bacteriostatic water you added in milliliters. This gives you your solution concentration in mcg/mL. Then divide your target dose by that concentration to get your draw volume. For example, a 5mg (5,000 mcg) vial reconstituted with 2mL of BAC water gives a concentration of 2,500 mcg/mL. A 250 mcg dose would require drawing 0.1mL. This calculator automates all of those steps instantly.
How much Bacteriostatic water should I add to a peptide vial?
Most people add 2mL to 3mL of bacteriostatic water per vial, but the right amount depends on the dose you want to draw and the syringe size you are using. Adding 1mL to a 5mg vial gives you a concentration of 5,000 mcg/mL, making each dose very small in volume. Adding 2mL gives you 2,500 mcg/mL, which is easier to measure on a standard insulin syringe. A general guideline is to choose a volume that puts your typical dose somewhere between 10 and 30 units on a U-100 syringe. Use the calculator above to test different water volumes and find what works for your dose.
How are peptides different from proteins?
Both are made of amino acids, but peptides are much smaller than proteins. Because of their tiny size, peptides can act like tiny messengers in the body, sending specific signals to your cells to tell them exactly what to do.
